Description

M51, The Whirlpool Galaxy was discovered by Charles Messier in 1773, M51 is located 31 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Canes Venatici. At the end of one of the arms is NGC 5195 a compact galaxy that appears to be tugging on the arm. I wish I had Ha data for this but I did not take any. I have the same scope back on my mount after months of wider field work so I may gather more data for this.
